Before entering the sex industry, society had unfortunately drilled into me all of the typical stereotypes about sleazy men, drug-addict workers and an overwhelming sense of worthlessness that any girl must feel. Entering the industry was scary, but all it took was about 10 minutes to realize that Hollywood deglamorizes it beyond any sense of truth.

Before Funhouse, I had always been the kind of person who shrugged off any compliment. I knew I wasn’t ugly, but there was always insecurity chipping away at any self-confidence I had. If it wasn’t my short hair, or my not-so-perfect complexion, it was my body and all the flaws that we girls can identify within ourselves. Now, I can confidently say that I love my body and myself. I may not be perfect, but Funhouse showed me that beauty is found within imperfections.

Do you have any idea how liberating it is to have someone pay A LOT of money to be in your presence for an hour? It is almost ironic how there are misconceptions about how women feel worthless, considering there is incredible value placed on our time.

At my peak, I remember feeling a sense of ecstasy. Not only was it pretty amazing to have security (as well as a whole new wardrobe) but also to be paid to feel beautiful felt too good to be true.

Besides the obvious benefits like a hefty paycheck and pretty “unique” work stories, the Funhouse team was what really made it such a glowing experience. Not only are all of the girls welcoming, helpful and understanding, so is Mary. Mary is as far away as possible from any stereotypical Madam. If for whatever reason, you don’t want to see a certain client again or you don’t want to work or just anything, she’ll understand and not pressure you into doing something you don’t want to do.

I know exactly how you’re feeling if you’re reading this and you’re asking yourself, “but what if all the men are gross?” or “what if people find out?” or doubting yourself that you can do it. Trust me, every working girl has been through that but all I can say is that it is a very liberating and addictive feeling to be wanted. I certainly will miss it.

As for the men, Mary cares about her girls. She wouldn’t put you in an unsafe environment, and she turns men away all the time to ensure that her girls are being treated with care. Pretty much all of my clients were very nice men who oddly enough, I became friends with (in a strange kind of way).

All I can really say to all you girls out there who want to give it a try, is don’t hesitate. If you try it once and it’s not for you, there is no pressure for you to keep at it. But if you try it once and experience the feelings I did, you’ll regret not doing it sooner!
